The little things:
Signage - if you're promoting your business/attraction, then have professionally designed signage along various routes that tells people where you are! On holiday this year, we had to ring a head office number (who didn't know where their venue was either) because we were driving round and round trying to locate signs. Not a good start to the visitor experience.
Noise - if you're a small but beautifully contained restaurant, watch out for cramming in too many diners. We should have had a lovely meal with friends over engaging conversation, but ended up shouting to be heard about the noise of the packed room. It's put me off wanting to go there again which is a real shame.
Space - there's a high street sports shop that I hate going to. It's probably got some really good value products that I'd be interested in buying, but I have to fight and squeeze (no comments about my size please) my way through the jam packed rails of clothes to get around the shop let alone try and find the tills to pay for anything I have managed to find. Ever heard of less is more?
Welcome - went to a Halloween event this week with middle child. Gave my parking space up to an older lady (which she didn't even bother to thank me for) and then felt ignored when I walked into the room to partake in the activities. OK, so it was probably run by volunteers and I should be thankful for that, but they still needed someone at the entrance to welcome and direct the visitor to the activities and take their money.
Parking bays - I would never park in a parent & child parking space if I didn't have them with me (I could actually get away with it as I have two car seats permanently in the back of the car). But it really annoys me when I see someone, usually young in a sporty car, do just that.
Parking bays continued - and what is it with the people who design these cars. It might look good on paper to try and cram in as many cars as possible into a car park but have they ever tried opening their door to get in and out once parked! Bet they haven't. It can sometimes be really difficult to get in and out of your car without knocking the car next door. Why can't they just make them a tad wider. (Again, no reference to my size please).
Entrances - if you've got a building entrance where people will be waiting make sure it looks good. It's the first impression someone has of your business. It can tell them alot. If they see things like chipped paper, paint splashes, broken pictures, dirty sofas, reception staff gossiping - what's it telling them about you and your product/service?
As I say, it's the little things. |
